An alternative usage of the preserved cinema „Marmorhaus“, located in the western city centre of Berlin. The building has been transformed into a business premises. While business transactions are carried out from the basement to the third floor, the fourth floor features office rooms. All of the building’s inner walls have been removed and a new emergency staircase was installed. Moreover interior staircases and elevaters facilitate business transactions. The existing lower level was sunk by about 1,30 m to use the basement completely as a selling space. Sometimes storey ceilings were built, because the previous ceilings, made out of stone and steal were not able to take the load due to earlier reorganizations. Moreover the building was enlarged in the direction of the courtyard. Due to its original implementation the high hipped roof was exposed and again completely glazed. The staircase at the side of the road was reworked completely in superior quality to correspond to the building’s representative charisma.
