The additional storeys in this 1970s’ residential building are built in massive
construction, with a plaster front and a metal roof. The upper floors were
suspended from the existing building, as the additional weight could not be
supported solely by the extant corpus. The load subtraction was realized by
means of a projecting pylon made of reinforced concrete, which was necessary
due to the intricate foundation conditions. The unused balconies were
converted into conservatories by adding concrete balustrades, and a
street-facing lift was installed so that the whole building could be given a
comprehensive outer appearance.
